Individualised support to improve outcomes for young people is our core business.

What you can expect from our therapy service

  • We understand that engaging in therapy can be daunting for anyone. Whether it's due to fear, negative past experiences, difficulty paying attention, finding it boring, or just plain awkward. Feeling hesitant or unsure is normal. We recognise that it may take time for you or your child to feel comfortable or safe enough to share your challenges, or perhaps you're currently lacking the energy, concentration, or motivation to delve deeper. It's OK to start here!

Care will commence with an initial appointment to get to know you and your situation. Further assessment or observation may be needed to further understand how you or your child function in your most meaningful activities - across a range of home, school or community settings.

  • Every individual, family and circumstance is entirely unique, and what works for one person may not necessarily work for another. Understanding this, our approach to care is tailored to meet the specific needs of each individual and family.

Collaborative goal setting helps to establish a clear understanding of what is most important for you to get out of our time together. What is it you most want to change to live the life you want? If this isn’t completely clear right now, that’s alright. Assisting with goal setting is kind of our thing.

From here, the intervention plan will vary considerably depending on the goals we have set together. Our approach is flexible and adaptable to ensure we are effectively supporting you to achieve your desired outcomes.

  • Intervention is likely to involve a combination of core Occupational Therapy strategies including:

-Building your own skills to better manage individual challenges and engage in daily activities. This may include developing social or communication skills, sensory based or stress management strategies.

-Task grading or graded exposure, to support you in doing what’s most important.

-Support with motivation, activation and establishing new routines.

-Task or environment modification, to change how you do things or how your surrounding environment can change to make things a little easier.

As indicated, our work may require more targeted therapy interventions such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioural or Dialectical Behaviour approaches, expressive or creative-based therapies. Our practice will remain Trauma Informed and underpinned by Attachment Theory.

No one lives in isolation, especially young people. Therefore parents, carers, family, school and other support services are essential to the work. Our approach often incorporates family therapy and child-focused parent work, leveraging the strengths of family to support their loved one.

  • Given the flexibility of outreach sessions can be delivered in a range of settings or circumstances. This may include:

    -Home

    -School

    -Community Spaces

    -Therapy-Safe Rooms

    -Telehealth/ Online

    -The Outdoors or Nature

As with everything, the setting of service delivery will be guided by your circumstance, interests and goals.
